New Profile: Excelsior College
Monday April 21, 2008
Excelsior College is one of the "big three" online schools known for giving life experience credit. They have a generous credit transfer policy and create an individual degree completion plan for each student enrolled. Students at Excelsior College may get credit for their current knowledge and life experience by taking exams or completing portfolio assessments. Since much of the study required is done without direct supervision, students enrolled in Excelsior should be self motivated and able to work independently.

What are the other 2 in the “big 3?”
Thomas Edison State College (TESC) and Charter Oaks State College (COSC) are the other two.
Alix is correct. In the full article, there are also links to the other two.
To make it easy, I’ll put them here as well:

Hi Jamie,
You seem very knowledgeable in this area. I am a little confused about the DETC accreditation. Shouldn’t be DOE standardize the credit transfer guideline in regard to the colleges/universities between NA and RA accreditation?
Also, I am interested to earn a MSIT from Aspen University due to the affordability (and while I can still having a full time job) reason and just wondering if you have any suggestions and or recommendations in regard distance learning universities where MSIT is offered.
Thanks in advance!
