New Facebook Application Helps Students Track Courses

Monday August 25, 2008
A new Facebook application, called Schools, is working with colleges to help students keep track of their courses.

PC World (off-site link) reports:
"The Facebook application is managed by the institution not the students and is plugged in to the school's database giving educational institutions more control over how and what information is shared.

Students who opt in to the application can view their entire course calendar within Facebook and if they add or drop a course at the registrar's office those changes will be immediately reflected in the Schools application."
This is different from Facebook's existing course tracking system, which gets information from users instead of directly from schools. Hopefully online programs will make use of the new application, making it easier for virtual students to stay organized and connect with their peers.
