The syllabus is probably the most important document you'll receive for a given class: essentially, it's a contract between you and your professor. Rather than just shuffling it away, take steps at the beginning of the semester to fully understand and use your syllabus.

Although most professors tend to give reminders about policies and assignment deadlines throughout the semester, you can't count on it and you'll often be held to the standards outlined in the syllabus. No one wants to be that one guy panicking minutes away from the major deadline that was covered in the syllabus weeks ago.
