DePaul University Online Academics:

As the largest Roman Catholic university in the United States and the ninth-largest private, not-for-profit institution of higher education, DePaul has more rigorous admissions requirements than many online schools. The Chicago-based university also boasts one of the most diverse student bodies in the country, and was recently ranked first in this category by the Princeton Review. One-third of the more than 23,000 DePaul University students both online and on campus are the first in their family to attend college.

DePaul University Online Accreditation:

The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools accredits DePaul University and its online programs.

DePaul University Online Degrees and Programs:

DePaul University's online campus offers various master's degrees and certificate programs. The College of Computer Science offers eight online master's degree programs, including e-commerce, information technology, telecommunications and instructional technology. Master's degrees in business administration and public-service management are also available. Certificate programs include financial planning, human resources, learning assessment and project management.

DePaul also offers a bachelor of arts degree through its School for New Learning, which caters to nontraditional students (those 24 years of age or older who have either limited or no prior college credit). Students pursuing this track work with counselors to create an individual program of study.

DePaul University Online Admissions:

Prospective adult undergraduates who have fewer than 12 semester or 16 quarter credits must submit a high school transcript or GED scores; students younger than 24 must also include recent ACT or SAT scores if they have fewer than 30 semester or 44 quarter credits. Official transcripts are required from all colleges attended. Undergraduates can begin classes at any time.

Students seeking a master's degree in a computer-science field should have a superior academic record in their bachelor's program, although work experience is important. MBA candidates should have a superior academic record, above-average GMAT scores dated within five years of admission and two professional letters of recommendation. Work experience as documented on a current resume will also be considered. The new public-service management degree requires two years of post-baccalaureate work experience. Public-service applications are accepted only between March 19 and May 12.

DePaul University Online Costs:

The DePaul University School for New Learning charges $422 for each undergraduate credit. Work and life experience may be applied toward an undergraduate degree at a cost of $150 per credit. Each master's degree credit in computer science costs $598. The business school charges $749 per credit for its MBA program, for a total of $36,000 to $54,000. The two-year, 52-credit public-service management master's costs $478 per credit hour, for a total of about $25,000. Prices for certificate programs vary widely. Financial aid and scholarships are available.

Interesting Fact:

DePaul University's School for New Learning, one of the first US colleges to specifically serve adult learners, has a project to help adult students who struggled in traditional programs due to chronic illnesses.
