DeVry University Online Academics:

A private, for-profit college, DeVry University boasts nearly 22,000 full-time and 26,000 part-time students at 23 brick-and-mortar campuses and online. DeVry University emphasizes its career focus and job-placement rates: For the 10 years ending June 2007, 90% of online and off-campus graduates found jobs in their chosen field within six months, according to DeVry. The curriculum focuses on practical applications, and courses are taught primarily by professionals rather than professors. Like other large for-profit online colleges, DeVry University has faced some controversy, having been investigated on charges that it took kickbacks from lenders in connection with its student-loan program.

DeVry University Online Accreditation:

The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools accredits DeVry University.

DeVry University Online Degrees and Programs:

Associate degrees in accounting, health information technology, network system administration and Web graphic design are offered entirely online. Online bachelor's degrees include business administration, computer information systems, network and communications management and technical management, as well as game and simulation programming. A master's degree in educational technology and master's degrees in management, including an MBA, also are available, as are a number of certificate programs. Other programs, including DeVry University's popular engineering technology programs, are offered only at brick-and-mortar campuses

DeVry University Online Admissions:

DeVry students must be at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma, a GED or a post-secondary degree. Transfer students must have at least a 2.0 college GPA, while incoming freshman must be in the top half of their class or have a high school GPA higher than 2.70. Freshmen must also have earned a B or better in algebra or higher math. ACT or SAT scores are weighed, and DeVry University also may require placement exams. Prospective students who meet these requirements may apply online, submit transcripts and complete an interview with a DeVry adviser.

DeVry University Online Costs:

The first 11 credits per semester generally cost $540 each, while the rest are discounted to $325 each. Associate programs are about 67 credits, for a total of $36,180 if all courses are taken part-time. Bachelor's degrees require about 124 credits, for about $67,000 total. The master's degrees in management, including the MBA, require 15 to 16 courses at $2,050 each, for a total of $30,750 to $32,800. Scholarships, grants and loans are available.

Interesting Fact:

DeVry University bought out Ross University, a Caribbean school of human and veterinary medicine, in 2003.
