George Washington University Online Academics:
The George Washington University online distance-learning program is a relatively small part of this 25,000-student traditional, not-for-profit university. Limited undergraduate options are available, but the online program's emphasis is on its wide variety of graduate and certificate health science programs, including a healthcare MBA. The once-weekly classes are designed to accommodate adult learners' often busy schedules.

George Washington University Online Degrees and Programs:
George Washington University is one of the few colleges to provide online health science degrees. The university's health science programs educate nurse practitioners, nursing leaders and health administrators through online master's programs and one doctoral program. Eleven certificates also are available in specialized fields such as hematology, blood banking and clinical research. Military-trained medics need to complete only six courses for George Washington University's associate degree in clinical health sciences. A similar bachelor's degree also is available.
The university's graduate school of education and human development offers online master's degrees in bilingual special education, educational leadership, educational technology and rehabilitation counseling. Five online certificate programs in special education, Web design and job placement also are offered. A healthcare MBA, a master's in project management and a master's in tourism are available as well.
George Washington University Online Admissions:
Admissions are generally competitive at this respected university. Both of its online undergraduate programs require students to have military healthcare training. Graduate health science admissions require two recommendations, certified transcripts and a statement of purpose in addition to special program requirements, such as a bachelor's in nursing for the nurse practitioner degree. Most graduate education degrees require either the GRE or the Miller Analogies Test as well as two letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose and all official transcripts. The healthcare MBA requires the GMAT, college transcripts, three recommendations, a resume and a statement of professional goals. Prospective tourism students can submit either GRE or GMAT scores and should have at least three years of hospitality or tourism management experience in addition to the MBA requirements. Exceptions may be granted to adult learners who are changing careers.
George Washington University Online Costs:
Most graduate health degrees cost $534 per credit, or about $24,000 total. The 48-credit MBA costs $1,080 per credit, or about $50,000.The education and other graduate degrees cost $1,012 per credit, with programs varying from 30 to 45 credits. Undergraduates pay $1,090 per credit, one of the highest rates in the United States. A great deal of financial aid is available.
The school is named for President George Washington, who first lobbied for the creation of the DC college, which was chartered by Congress in 1821.
