Kaplan University Online Academics:

More than 25,000 students attend this private, for-profit school, primarily as undergraduates, according to its accrediting agency. Kaplan is now just one of a few colleges to offer an online law degree, through its Concord Law School, which Kaplan University acquired in the fall of 2007. Professionals who still work in the field teach Kaplan University's courses. In addition to student discussions and online quizzes, courses include Web field trips in which students research topics online. Through a partnership with the University of Alabama, Kaplan University students can check out books, journals and other materials online and have them delivered to their homes or offices.

Kaplan University Online Accreditation:

The Higher Education Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools accredits Kaplan University.

Kaplan University Online Degrees and Programs:

Kaplan's associate degrees include business administration, computer information systems, criminal justice and paralegal. Its most popular associate degrees are travel and hospitality. Kaplan also offers bachelor's degrees in each of these fields, as well as in health science, legal studies, management, nursing, nutrition, psychology and wellness. Master's degrees are available in business administration, criminal justice, education, higher education, law, management and nursing, but only 43 graduate degrees were awarded in 2007. Certificate programs include specialties in subjects such as crime scenes, website development and national security. The law school offers a part-time, four-year program leading to admission to the California bar as well as a part-time, three-year law degree program for enrollees who don't plan on taking a bar exam.

Kaplan University Online Admissions:

Undergraduate admissions require a high school diploma or GED. Transfer credits are evaluated before being accepted. Graduate admissions require a bachelor's degree from an accredited college and a 2.5 GPA. All certificate programs require a high school diploma or GED, and some require an associate degree. The law school requires an admissions test and college transcripts, and prospective students must speak to an admissions representative for further information.

Kaplan University Online Costs:

Undergraduates pay $320 per credit, for a total of about $29,000 for a typical 90-credit associate degree or $58,000 for a typical 180-credit bachelor's degree. Most graduate programs charge $350 per credit for 50 to 65 credits, although the 52- to 68-credit MBA and management master's programs charge $380 to $475 per credit for a total of $20,000 to $32,000. Law school tuition costs $8,900 per term. Financial aid is available. Tuition for active military is discounted 15%, and military spouses receive 10% off.
