The ACCSCT is an independent national accrediting agency for about 800 mostly vocational schools around the country, some of which offer distance-learning programs. Recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a valid agency, the ACCSCT serves more than 200,000 students in enforcing standards for career-focused education for trade and technical careers. ACCSCT schools include both degree- and non-degree-granting institutions. The ACCSCT began in 1965 as the Accrediting Commission of the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools. After a division in the commission in 1993, the separately created Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology emerged.
