Baker College Online Academics:

Baker College Online bills itself as a career-focused college. While the school's Blackboard system is online 24 hours a day for students to listen to lectures, discuss content, and complete assignments, the school sets regular deadlines for students to get the work done. Online courses run six weeks. On the first day of each week, online instructors transmit their introductory remarks on the topics to be covered and outline the work to be completed that week. Professors assess students' performance weekly. A technical orientation to ensure students are computer-literate is mandatory. Students can purchase books through Baker's online bookstore. The school emphasizes that its distance-learning program doesn't operate like a correspondence course, as students must also complete virtual classroom discussion requirements.

Baker College Online Accreditation:

Baker College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Baker College Online Degrees and Programs:

Students can choose from 43 online degree programs and certificates in what the school's website terms "high employment fields." Bachelor's degrees include accounting, finance, game software development, Web development and psychology. The lone degree at the doctorate level is in business administration. Master's degrees include marketing, leadership studies and traditional financial degrees. The associate degree level heavily emphasizes finance and computers.

Baker College Online Admissions:

Baker College Online generally upholds a "right to try" open admission policy for undergraduates and doesn't require the taking of any preparatory exams such as the SAT. But it does have specific guidelines based on the programs offered, and all students must have experience using computers. Master's degree candidates need at least a 2.5 GPA and three years of relevant work experience. Students must also provide three letters of recommendation and a written essay. For the doctorate program, achieving a minimum 3.25 GPA in an MBA or related master's degree from a properly accredited  US school is required. International students must either have completed a bachelor's or master's degree at a university where classes are taught in English, or they must score well on the Test of English as a Foreign Language.

Baker College Online Costs:

Tuition for undergraduates costs $190 per credit hour, in addition to a one-time $20 application fee and $50 graduation fee. Those in the master's program can expect to pay $330 per credit hour, plus $25 to apply and $75 to graduate. Doctoral credit hours cost $450, plus a $25 application fee and $75 graduation fee. Many students get their tuition reimbursed by their companies and are eligible for deferred payment. Most students should qualify for financial aid, the school says, and they can apply for free by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.

Interesting Fact:

Baker College got its true start in 1888 when an increase in lumbering and Great Lakes commerce inspired a man named Woodbridge Ferris to found Baker's predecessor, Muskegon College.
