Champlain College Online Academics:
While Champlain College Online touts the flexibility it offers in its career-focused online education, the college says students should be willing to dedicate 13 to 14 hours per week to "attending" class and doing assignments. Distance-learning classes are spread over six sessions per year. The master's degree courses are limited to 15 students to encourage meaningful participation. Threaded discussions energize classes, meaning that students' and instructors' voices can easily be heard around the clock.
Champlain College Online Accreditation:
Champlain College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Champlain College Online Degrees and Programs:
Champlain College's online undergraduate degrees and programs seek to enhance some of the most marketable skills in the business world. Degrees include accounting, business management, computer forensics and digital investigations, computer and information systems, software development (associate and bachelor's degrees) and website development and administration (associate and bachelor's). The school focuses its graduate offerings on an MBA program, in which networking with students and faculty is encouraged, and a Master of Science in managing innovation and IT, which enables candidates to get ahead on the leadership side of the technology boom.
Champlain College Online Admissions:
Undergrads would be wise to heed the school's recommendation that they have strong writing skills, which are especially important for virtual learning. The Admissions Committee offers few hard-and-fast standards. Applicants must make the grade on a combination of secondary school marks, class rank, standardized test scores and recommendations. The school says it looks closely at solid grades in college-prep classes. And then there are the basics: Students must have graduated from a high school or passed the GED exam, and have taken the SAT in two disciplines. Transfer students require transcripts from previous institutions. Master's candidates in the Division of Continuing Professional Studies, the main distance-education arm, need an undergrad degree and two years of relevant work in the real world.
Champlain College Online Costs:
Online learning through the school's Division of Continuing Professional Studies costs $490 per credit hour. Graduate students pay in the range of $670 per credit hour. Application and other fees are additional.
Fifty-eight percent of 2,152 applicants in the previous class earned admission into Champlain as bachelor's candidates.
