Cleveland Institute of Electronics unites the immediacy of vocational study with the convenience of distance learning. In receiving electronics and computer training, students can earn one of several certifications, an associate degree, or even a bachelor's along the way. Many of the institute's classes focus on theory that can immediately be applied on the job. The coursework can be digested at students' own pace through books, online instruction, CDs, DVDs and tapes. Qualified instructors make themselves available via e-mail, chat room or telephone. Advanced courses are offered to the more experienced, and some classes with a greater degree of difficulty add up to more credits. All of the curriculum can build credits toward an associate degree. The average student can get through two or three lessons weekly, the school says. Although it exists as an online entity, Cleveland Institute of Electronics publishes a school paper and honors its best students. The school makes evaluations through its e-grade site. Applicants should check equipment specifications for courses where applicable.

The institute offers an associate degree in computer information technology and systems management, and an associate in electronic engineering technology. The bachelor's tracks are in computer information systems and electronic engineering technology. Among the courses are Robotics, Introduction to Computers and Microsoft Office, Computer Programming with Java and C#, Introduction to Home Automation Installation, Electronics Technology with FCC License Preparation, and Wireless and Electronic Communications.

The Cleveland Institute of Electronics requires a high school diploma or GED. Up to 53 transfer credit hours may be applied at the discretion of the institute. (The institute does not guarantee that its credits will automatically be transferable to other schools.)
Cleveland Institute of Electronics Online Costs:
The annual tuition for the associate degree programs is $3,770, with an additional $900 for books and supplies. The classes are individually priced from $1,295 for Introduction to Home Automation to $3,945 for Electronics Tech and Advanced Troubleshooting. Up to 75% of tuition may be subsidized for active military by the DANTES program. Military spouses are also eligible for assistance. Students are also reminded to consider the Cleveland Institute of Electronics' financing special education loan, which consists of a down payment and monthly payments afterward. All courses can be started with just a $25 payment, the school says.
