With a full menu of associate degrees plus select options for a bachelor's degrees, Rasmussen College Online has positioned itself as a viable step into higher education. The college devises the curriculum to suit the working world, assuring the career-minded that their academic pursuits will have professional relevance.

Students complete all the coursework online and in various increments. There are two class starts per quarter. Students convene in virtual classrooms and communicate with an instructor and each other through discussion forums and e-mail. Rasmussen says it provides round-the-clock tech support. Every class runs differently. Some may post several deadlines within a week; others just one. Students have the freedom to complete the work at any time within the designated time frame. Many of the programs can be completed in less than two years, the college says. Rasmussen points out that its role doesn't cease after graduation -- the college's career services staff assists graduates with interview coaching and job hunting. Rasmussen College Online applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. The requirements for each program vary from there. Work experience can count toward credit, and students may transfer up to half of their required credits. International applicants should score 500 or more on the TOEFL or its equivalent on the computer-based exam.

The cost of tuition on average is $405 per credit hour, although some of the curricula is priced per course. The application fee is $60.
