Allied National High School Academics:

Allied is an online high school that offers individual courses and a full diploma program for students in grades nine through 12. The school offers classes in six core subject areas - English, math, science, social studies, foreign language and fine arts. Fields like foreign language, where Spanish is the only offering, are limited. Electives are limited to just five subjects, including psychology, sociology and vocational topics like Microsoft Office applications.

At Allied, students work at their own pace and have up to a year to complete each course. Courses are administered through Blackboard Academic Suite, a popular software program among online colleges. The program enables students to create reminders about upcoming deadlines and assignments, view their grades and read announcements posted on the message board. Teachers can be contacted via e-mail, phone or discussion boards. For an extra fee, the school also offers an "enhanced support" option, which provides for more frequent contact from teachers and regular progress reports for parents.

Allied National High School Accreditation:

Allied is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Distance Education and Training Council. Students can transfer credits they've earned at Allied to another high school in some cases.

Allied National High School Degrees and Programs:

Students in Allied's diploma program must complete 22 credits to graduate. Most courses are worth a half credit and can be completed in about 18 weeks. Students may apply credits they've earned elsewhere toward their Allied diploma. A student is considered full-time if he or she enrolls in more than three online classes per semester.

Students who choose the school's college prep track must satisfy foreign language and elective requirements. Students on the career prep path take courses that focus on job skills in industries like real estate and health care. Allied also offers part-time and summer school.

Allied National High School Admissions:

Allied enrolls students year-round. Although students do their coursework independently, new enrollees who start at the same time are encouraged to interact with one another via an online discussion board.

Allied National High School Costs:

Tuition for each half credit (the equivalent of a semester-long course) is $528. At that rate, a student who takes all of his or her high school courses at Allied would pay around $23,000 total. The school offers financial aid and several payment plans.

Interesting Fact:

Allied has its own Parent Teacher Association that enables parents and students to participate in online discussions about the school.
