Ashworth University High School Academics:

Formerly known as James Madison Online High School, Ashworth University High School offers a complete curriculum for grades 9 through 12 as well as individual courses for students who need to pick up a few credits in order to graduate. The school emphasizes online study, but it also offers print-based correspondence courses. Instructors are available by email, instant messaging or phone, depending on the method of study.

Because all courses are self-paced - students can even decide when to take their exams - Ashworth is best suited to independent, motivated students who prefer to set their own schedules. Those who benefit from a more structured environment might struggle with the lack of deadlines. It's also worth noting that there are no electives available at Ashworth; everyone in the same high school diploma program takes the same set of courses.

Ashworth University High School Accreditation:

Ashworth is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation and the Distance Education and Training Council.

Ashworth University High School Degrees and Programs:

Ashworth offers two diploma tracks: a general diploma program for students who simply want to complete their high school coursework and a college preparatory program for students who plan to go on to further study. Both programs are self-paced and include courses in English, math, science, social studies and technology. The main differences are the number of credits required (16 for general diploma, 22 for college prep) and the cost (see below).

Students can choose between online and correspondence study. The school also offers individual courses for students who need to make up missed credits at their own high schools.

Ashworth University High School Admissions:

Ashworth accepts students year-round with no entrance exam. Applicants must be at least 14 years old, and anyone under 18 must have the approval of a parent or guardian to enroll; otherwise, the only prerequisites are a down payment and a computer that meets the school's system requirements. Those who choose to study online will be able to start their coursework within 1 to 2 days of enrolling.

Students who have already completed some high school may be able to apply that work toward their diploma at Ashworth; during the enrollment process, a student advisor will determine which credits are transferable.

Ashworth University High School Costs:

Tuition is $2,250 for the general online diploma program, $2,990 for the college prep online program. Though less convenient, the correspondence programs are considerably cheaper: $1,349 for general diploma and $1,599 for college prep. Individual courses are available for $295 (general curriculum) and $350 (college prep curriculum). The school offers an interest-free monthly payment plan and occasionally features tuition discounts on its Web site.

Interesting Fact:

The main Ashworth University Web site features several blogs, as well as links to the AU presence on Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, and YouTube.
